League Lines LIVE! The League of Vermont Writers brand new, first-ever BLOG!

Overhauling our website also meant stepping into the wonderful world of blogging. LVW’s previous website didn’t have this element, but nowadays most websites include a blog where they keep their visitors ‘in the know’ with what is happening.

It is LVW’s aim to showcase a variety of writing voices and experiences within this space. That being said, the posts included here are the voices and styles of individual writers within the League and not the voice or opinion of the organization as an entire entity (unless specifically noted – like this post for instance). Additionally, you have to be a member of the League of Vermont Writers to write for the blog.

Seeing as LVW has never had a blog, we are learning as we go, but we do have a few key things laid out to get started.

First, our starting goal is to have one new blog post a week. We hope you’ll help us achieve this.

Second, as stated above, only members can be contributors.

Third, we are looking for a variety of content, including but not limited to:

  • Writing prompts
  • Book/reading lists
  • General writing tips
  • Genre tips
  • Blurbs about program speakers
  • Writing contests or announcements
  • Book Reviews
  • Upcoming writing-related events, book readings, or signings
  • Stories on writing successes, challenges, or journeys

Lastly, we would like posts to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • 300-500 words
  • Grammatically sound
  • Copyedited
  • Organized thoughts, coherent and polished
  • Focuses on an element of writing or the writing life
  • Appropriately quotes and references outside resources
  • Does not include prejudicial or hate speech or content
  • Includes a high-res photo that is available and legal to post without copyright issues

If you are interested in guest contributing, please contact us and we will send you a form to complete with a deadline for submission – which is approximately one week from the time of agreement.

Posts will be reviewed before going live. Consequently, the LVW reserves the right to decline any post after receiving it if it does not meet the criteria listed above.

We hope you’ll write to us with interest in writing for the blog. Every voice is important and we know we have a wealth of talent in the League to showcase here online.

Alyssa Berthiaume is now the Immediate Past President for LVW after serving three years in the hot seat. She’s an aspiring writer with a modest list of publications and a MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the Northeast Ohio Masters of Fine Arts Program. Within the drawers of her desk are several drafts of a memoir, one working-draft of a novel she started during 2016 NaNoWriMo, and a lot of children’s picture books. Someday she’ll get published. Meanwhile, she works full-time and lives in Milton with her supportive husband and their spirited and adorable one year-old son; big, loveable and huggable Bernese Mountain dog, Locksley; and her manuscript-warming cat, Nevé.
